In the News:

united-states-flag_2084_7136702015 Dec 09 — Gay Marriage in DC!  From HRC — Great news today: marriage equality has just passed in Washington, D.C.!  The bill now goes to the Mayor Adrian Fenty, who has promised to sign it. The U.S. Congress then has 30 days to review the legislation. After that window passes, the bill becomes law!  But the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington has threatened to cut social services, in protest.  They’d cut homeless shelters, food programs for needy families, and health services rather than provide equal benefits for employees in same-sex marriages.   See full story here.

annise212 Dec 09 — Annise Parker Elected Mayor of Houston!  Voters in the nation’s fourth largest city went to the polls today and elected HRC-endorsed and Equality Texas-endorsed candidate Annise Parker the next mayor of Houston.  Parker was elected with 53 percent of the vote, defeating her runoff opponent Gene Locke who garnered 47 percent.  Houston is the winner because Annise Parker’s prior experience will serve her well as Mayor and because it did not succumb to bigoted fear-mongering and homophobia.
